Project Profile: MyFAP.org

Funded by the National Institutes of Health (1R41CA126453-01A1) and developed in partnership with M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, MyFAP.org is a comprehensive support and social networking site for teens and young adults dealing with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP). Developed as part of a Phase I STTR feasibility study, MyFAP.org is the only English Internet site available that offers extensive information about FAP, written for a teen audience. The site features social networking functions that encourage users of this rare condition to connect and share experience, while interactive multimedia and animation components increase user knowledge and provide psychosocial support and motivation.

The major content areas address key clinical and psychosocial aspects of FAP, including: information about the clinical aspects of FAP, genetics of FAP and the hereditary nature of the condition, genetic testing for FAP and implications of test results, medical management of FAP, and psychosocial implications.
